With a growing social media following and dedicated profile pieces in The Financial Times, Business Insider and Dazed (to name just a few!), ‘Tanner Leatherstein’ is fast becoming one of the best-known authorities on leather and craftsmanship.

Whilst the shock factor of taking a scalpel to a designer handbag may account for some of the millions of views his videos have received, it’s clear that Volkan Yilmaz, owner of the Tanner Leatherstein account, is on a mission to uncover the truth about luxury brands and the quality of their products – and that’s what really has us all hooked.

Watching Volkan deconstruct the Strathberry Nano Tote with his scissors, knives, and some sheer brute force, is certainly not for the faint of heart. However, as he picks apart the side panels, rips off handles and hardware, and slices the leather from its frame (audio on for this one!), it’s clear that this small but mighty handbag can hold its own in the luxury market.

In my opinion, a bag of this calibre would be three to six times this price from a top luxury leather brand.

Yes, we winced with every cut and rip of the leather - after all, it takes over 20 hours for each Strathberry bag to be made by hand - but, the whole Strathberry team couldn’t have been more delighted with Volkan’s verdict.
